MARCH KEY POINTS
Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for March 2016:
- Beef production continued to decline, down a further 1 percent in March 2016 and down 16 percent when compared to levels recorded in March 2015.
- Calf slaughter increased 3 percent in March 2016 due mainly to seasonal effects in the dairy industry.
- Sheep slaughter fell by 2 percent in March 2016.
- Lamb slaughter and production continued to increase in March 2016 with continuing strong export demand.
- Pig slaughter and production remained steady in March 2016.
